Public media need structural revamp: Minister Dr Timilsina
Kathmandu, Oct 7: Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has said public media require structural revamp so that they would be further smooth, prompt, professional, result-oriented and credible.
Minister Dr Timilsina said it while garnering information on the organization and management survey of the State-run media such as Public Service Broadcasting, Gorkhaptra Corporation and Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS). The workforce would be managed based on burden and performance.
The structures in the public media should not be made unmanageable and complex by creating division, section and administrative layers. However, competent workforces are imperative in the institution and structures prepared accordingly, he reminded.
The Minister further said major responsibility of public media is production and dissemination of quality news, information and programmes, so the employees' quota can be managed accordingly. Best news rooms are need of hour, while resources are of equal attention, according to him.
The organization and management survey should pay heed to the issues such as current structure, performance, workforce and need at office and its sections. However, bulky structures should not be created, Dr Timilsina underscored.
The sections involved in duplication of works in the office should be retrenched, according to him.
The organization and management survey is being conducted in the public media by taking into account the structure, quota, human resources, work division, term of references, rights and accountability, and office needs. The survey report would help make the media services further effective and professional.
