Kathmandu, Sept 16: The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has planned minimum and zero tariffs on electricity service to the flood survivors including the enterprises. The households and businesses affected by floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts will be provided rebate in power tariffs.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, stated that concessions on electricity services were in the offing to ensure support in emergency to those (families and businesses) affected by the disaster.

Minister's secretariat shared information on Wednesday that even in the payments made by other customers would be considered for relief. The meeting of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Board of Directors decided not to issue minimum electricity bills starting from the month of Bhadra for the customers whose property perished in Bhotekoshi River flood.

The customers whose electricity meters are damaged or washed away by the floods can request for the new ones and government provides them free of cost.  The Authority's management was directed to study the possibility of providing further concessions or discounts on electricity tariffs for the customers in the flood-affected areas.

The secretariat added that efforts were going on to restore electricity services in the 15 flood-affected local levels. Together with the restoration, the NEA has been asked to study damages and propose the amount of concessions to the customers.

The NEA is all set to finalize the additional concessions and on power tariff within a week.
