Talks underway to reopen Tatopani border point: Minister Lamsal
Kathmandu, Oct 6: Minister for Infrastructure Development, Sunil Lamsal, shared that discussions were underway with China to reopen the Tatopani trade transit point.
Minister Lamsal informed this at a meeting of the Parliamentary Special Committee on the Impact of Climate Change in the Himalayas, Climate Justice and the Bhotekoshi Trishuli Disaster today.
He reiterated that the government was making continuous efforts to resume operations at both the Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi tarde transit points, both sharing borders with northern neighbours.
He also clarified that currently there were no problems on the Nepali side on the Tatopani border point and that the road on the Nepali side had already been reopened.
However, he notified the lawmakers that the Chinese side did not yet appear ready to resume operations on Tatopani border.
''We are ready even now. We have no difficulty operating the border point from our side. We are also in regular communications with the Chinese side. We are working on how to reopen the Rasuwagadhi border point,'' the Minister mentioned.
Lamsal observed that recent major natural disasters including the August 26's Bhotekoshi flood had made it difficult to immediately resume operations on the two border points.
Meanwhile, he added that the government was working to construct and restore roads and other infrastructures in the areas affected by the disasters.
He also apprised the lawmakers that the government was making efforts to reopen the Rasuwagadhi border point, a major trade route with China.
Furthermore, the government is working on the infrastructures required for its resumption.
