Long-term institutional structure for climate diplomacy: Foreign Minister Khanal
Kathmandu, Sept 16: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has emphasized the need to establish a long-term institutional structure to effectively address climate change.
Addressing a session on 'Climate Diplomacy' at the second edition of the 'MoFA Knowledge Forum' organized here Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he stated that while climate change is a multifaceted issue a long-term institutional framework is essential to tackle it.
Nepal needs to focus on determining the type of institutional structure it requires and how to present its position strongly on international platforms.
"The kind of institution Nepal needs and the international forums where we can present ourselves strongly are crucial," Minister Khanal said. During the discussion, suggestions and consultations were sought from experts who have worked or are currently working in various areas of climate change at both national and international levels.
