Cyclone Arnab poses risk of heavy rain, snowfall in Nepal
Kathmandu, Oct 28: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged the public to remain vigilant as Cyclone Arnab develops over the Bay of Bengal.
The cyclone is expected to affect Nepal’s weather on October 30 and 31. It may bring heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.
The Authority said many places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces could experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, with heavy rain likely in some areas.
Rainfall is also possible in parts of Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces.
NDRRMA Spokesperson Ram Bahadur KC shared that the Nepal Meteorology Department had forecast the cyclone’s possible impact on Nepal from Friday.
High-hill and Himalayan areas also face the risk of heavy snowfall, snowstorms and avalanches, potentially endangering travellers and local communities.
The Authority has advised people to avoid travel to high-altitude areas, limit journeys to essential purposes and stay away from riverbanks and flood-prone locations.
It has also urged the public to follow official weather updates and move to safer places if a threat emerges.
For assistance, people can call 1155 for weather information, 1234 for disaster support, 100 for Nepal Police and 1144 for Tourist Police.
