Narayangadh (Chitwan), Oct 26: Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration Pratibha Rawal has asserted that landless Dalits, landless squatters and settlers living on unmanaged land have the right to receive land ownership certificates.
Interacting with local residents at Ganeshsthan in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-11 in Chitwan district today, Minister Rawal ranted that distribution of land ownership certificates had been used for political gain in the past.
Hence, she stressed that the issue should not be used as a political promise.
Rawal arrived in Chitwan to discuss the problems faced by landless people and squatters as well as to review the process of distributing land ownership certificates and listen to their grievances.
During the interaction with the local residents, Minister told them, "Land ownership certificates should not be linked to politics. You deserve to receive them and it is your right."
According to her, the government had removed policy barriers to distributing land ownership certificates through an ordinance.
On the occasion, she urged local governments and Land Problem Resolution Committees to speed up the process.
Expressing her concern over the longstanding issue of landlessness in the country, the Minister said, "Policy no longer stands in the way of granting you land ownership certificates. What matters now is the intention to act. Local governments must expedite the process and Land Committees must complete their work without delay."
Acknowledging the delays in distributing the certificates had caused hardship for landless people and squatters for many years, she clarified that the government was committed to providing the certificates at the earliest.
During the interaction, local residents put forth their problems and grievances with Minister Rawal. They also thanked her for the government's initiative to address their concerns.
Rawal pledged that she would visit all local levels in Chitwan district to hear the concerns of landless Dalits, squatters and people living on unmanaged land.
She also vowed to consult the concerned authorities and stakeholders so as to address their grievances promptly.
